MARIO ANCILLOTTI does not need any introductions in the musical world. He is one of the most wellknown Italian musicians in the field of his chosen instrument, the flute, and also in his most recent activity, as organizer and director. He has been active in the five continents and his reputation is globally recognized.
Born in 1946 he began his musical formation at the ‘Conservatorio di Firenze’, where he had the opportunity to work with great musicians teaching there: Luigi Dallapiccola, Roberto Lupi, Carlo Prosperi, Franco Rossi, Piero Farulli, Piero Bellugi, etc. Later, in Rome, together with Severino Gazzelloni, he held the position of 1st Flute in the ‘Orchestra della Rai di Roma’ and then in Santa Cecilia. Eight years later, having left the orchestra, he dedicated himself entirely to performance as a soloist, playing with all the most recognized musicians: from Accardo to Muti, from Berio to Petrassi, Penderecki, Sciarrino, Henze, Canino, Spivakov, Giuranna and performing under the guidance of Maag, Bellugi, Cambreling, Bour, Soudant, Gelmetti, Penderecki, Ferro, Melles, Lu Jia, Muhai Tang, etc.
For over twenty years he taught at the ‘Corsi Speciali di Perfezionamento’ of the ‘Scuola di Musica di Fiesole’, courses that have attracted the most noted musicians in the world.
He has been teaching at the ‘Scuola Universitaria di Musica’ of Lugano, Switzerland for the past 18 years, being one of the few Italian musicians who teach at a foreign university. He also holds courses and seminars in different parts of the world.
He is director and animator of the group ‘Nuovo Contrappunto’, which was born in the Fiesole School. This is the highlight of his career as a musician, which has never been limited to the performance of music, but also includes musical direction and organization.
The projects born and publicized through ‘Nuovo Contrappunto’, have had the praise and encouragement of the most important Italian musical societies. In less than one year, two CDs featuring music of Debussy, Ravel and De Falla, were released for the magazine “Amadeus” with Ancillotti as director and soloist. His idea, the ‘SUONI RIFLESSI’ event particularly interested the musical community, earning the unconditional support of the Regional Boards in Tuscany. This success stimulated numerous invitations to conduct orchestras and soloists at the highest level.
Therefore, one can say that this well-rounded musical personality, with interests and activities outside of the musical world is a modern personality of wide cultural value.
