Anna Bulkina

piano

ANNA BULKINA was born in 1986 and is a young Russian pianist. Her first success was winning the “Chopin International Piano Competition for Young Pianist” in Szafarnia, Poland, at the age of 12. After graduated from the Sergei Rachmaninoff Conservatory under Professor Rimma Skorokhodova in 2008, she came to the United States to continue her study at the Texas Christian University on the Lili Kraus Scholarship.

Starting in 2006, Anna Bulkina became a yearly participant in a Russian performers' program named "Superior Performing Course" in St. Petersburg. This created other performance opportunities in various concert halls in St. Petersburg. In April 2007 she performed Chopin's Concerto No.1 at the St. Petersburg Philharmonic and in October 2009 Prokofiev Concerto No.2 with St. Petersburg state Academic Symphony Orchestra.

She is the prize winner of many international competitions: in 2009 she was the National Winner of the MTNA Young Artist Piano Competition Finals in Atlanta, Georgia, and as a prize she was awarded a Steinway grand piano. In the same year, she also won the 59th Wideman Piano Competition in Shreveport, Louisiana, and the 50th Annual Sorantin International Competition in San Angelo, Texas. In September 2010, Anna Bulkina won 2-nd prize at the 26-th International piano competition "Valsesia Musica" in Varallo ( Italy) and in November 2010 she won 2-nd prize at the 5-th China International piano competition (Xiamen, China). In August 2011 she won 1-st prize at the Concours International de Piano "Virtuoses du futur", Crans Montana (Switzerland) and in September 2011 she won 2-nd prize at the "Ferrucсio Busoni International piano competition" in Bolzano ( Italy). It was her triumph at the Busoni that has rapidly garnered her international recognition as a concert pianist of significant stature.

A series of concert engagements quickly followed as a result of her series of achievements. As a top prizewinner of the Busoni Competition, Anna Bulkina was offered the special privilege to play in a series of three master classes given by Alfred Brendel. The first of which took place at the Ruhr Klavier Festival in Germany. The second was during the Bolzano International Festival, Italy, followed by the third master class held in the newly built “Harpa Concert Hall” in Iceland. In between the master classes Anna also performed solo recitals in all three countries.

She has also extensive experience in playing recitals in Beijing's National Center of the Performing Arts, Brazil and Switzerland.

She collaborated with various orchestras such as the Fort Worth Symphony (by performing Schumann Concert, Cond. Miguel Harth-Bedoya and Beethoven Concerto No.3 under the baton of Leon Fleisher, as a winner of the concerto competition at the “Piano Texas International Academy and Festival”), Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León, State Philharmonic Orchestra from Bacau, St. Petersburg State Academic Symphony Orchestra, Northwest Florida Symphony, San Angelo Symphony (by playing Prokofiev Concerto № 2, Cond. Hector Guzman), China National Symphony Orchestra (by performing Mozart Concerto in C minor K 491 and Prokofiev Concerto № 2 under the baton of Lin Tao), Wuhan Symphony Orchestra (by performing the Mozart Concerto No.24) and others.

She had also the privilege to work with Miguel Harth-Bedoya and Paul Badura-Scoda.

Currently she is completing a Master's Program under the guidance of Dr. Tamás Ungár.
